This page
is made possible by Imaging-Resource,
whose sample images were used to create the composites below.
I created these composites to help myself compare cameras I was
considering for purchase. These images are strictly copyright
Imaging-Resource, and are designed for private use only.
The images
I chose to include in the comparison were created on the following
cameras: Nikon CoolPix 800, Canon Powershot Pro70, Olympus
C2500Z, Olympus C2000Z, Olympus D450Z and Sony
FSC-505.
A quick note
about the comparisons:
The
first image is a straight cut-and-paste from all the images, exactly
as they were downloaded from the site. The second image is a bit
more interesting, because all the images were re-sampled in Photoshop
(bicubic interpolation) to match the resolution of the largest
sample image (which means the Oly C2500 sample is the only original-size
image.) The point was to find out how much difference CCD size
really was.
For
the first comparison, I chose an indoor portrait to compare white-balance
and exposure characteristics. Only a small portion of the image
was used so they could be compared side-by-side.
The
second comparison uses images which were photographs of a poster
taken under studio conditions, to compare color fidelity and resolution.
This composite includes the Kodak PhotoCD reference image, which
should help identify which copies look most like the original. The
third composite in this group was created by performing an Auto-Levels
correction on each image in Photoshop before compositing.
There
are two versions of each image. The larger image shows the original
file, and the smaller image was resized in Photoshop. Both images
are saved as minimum-compression JPG's. Warning to those with
modem connections--these files are quite large.
